From Idea to a Website That Works

A clear plan. A consistent brand. A website with purpose.

A great website begins with a clear purpose. Before choosing colours or layouts, think about your visitors, what they need and the action you want them to take. Thoughtful planning turns a collection of pages into a useful online presence.

01 — Start with a clear goal

Decide what your website should help people do. Whether it is making an enquiry, booking a service or exploring your portfolio, a clear goal keeps every design decision focused.

Ask three questions: Who is this website for? What do those visitors need to know? What should they do next? Write down the answers before choosing a design.

02 — Plan your pages and content

Organise your services, business information and contact details into a simple structure. Use clear headings and useful content so visitors can find answers quickly.

A small business website might begin with Home, About, Services and Contact. Add a portfolio or blog when you have useful examples or insights to share. Prepare accurate service descriptions and suitable images before building the pages.

03 — Create a consistent brand experience

Bring your colours, fonts and imagery together. Consistency helps your website feel professional and makes your business easier to recognise.

Choose a small colour palette, readable typefaces and photographs that support your message. Keep buttons and headings consistent across your pages, and give each section enough breathing room.

04 — Make it easy to use on mobile

Check that text is readable, buttons are easy to tap and forms are simple to complete. Your website should feel comfortable on a phone as well as a desktop.

Review the navigation, image cropping and spacing on smaller screens. Keep enquiry forms focused on the information you need, and make your contact options easy to find.

05 — Review before you launch

Test links and contact forms, proofread your content and review the layout on different screen sizes. Check that images are appropriately sized, and confirm that enquiries reach the correct inbox.

Keep software updated and plan how you will maintain the website after launch. A website needs ongoing attention as your business, services and content change.

Every page should have a purpose. Every visitor should have a clear next step.

Your website launch checklist

  • Consistent colours, fonts and imagery
